Because of the famous garden-culture and paprika-growing of these region (Bács-Kiskun county) made people rich. The peasants'daughters and wives have begun to wear silk skirts and shirts embroidered with nature-like patterns. Planning of these needle-works was the job of women called "íróasszony" ("writer woman") from whom the best ones knew more than forty flower motifs.
There was a special dress, for Lent (fasting time) which was sewn with blue, purple and green colours. These clothes were called "szomorú pamukos".
